Register to Play

Q: What ages are allowed to participate in Redbird Rookies? A: Boys and girls, ages 5-13.

Q: What is the cost to participate? A:  This is a FREE, non-competitive program. There is NO cost to participate in any part of Redbird Rookies. Cardinals Care purchases uniforms for each participant, equipment for each team, and hosts several off-field activities where the kids earn rewards for participating.

Q: How do I sign-up to play in a Redbird Rookies league? A: Go to RedbirdRookies.org. Click “Find a league near you!”. Select the league closest to you. Follow the steps to setup your account and register participants, ages 5-13.

Q: Where do I find my team’s schedule? A: Once your league has placed you on the team, go to the homepage of your Redbird Rookies league. Click the “Schedule” link in the top navigation bar. You can also find the Off-Field Events Schedule in the top navigation bar.

Q: What is in the player/parent handbook? A: This handbook has everything you will need to make the most of your experience in Redbird Rookies this summer! It is sure to be lots of fun!

Handbook includes: Important dates flyer to hang up at home, Rawlings Gold Glove Attendance Card and Contest Entry Form, Readers Card, Schnucks “Healthy Eater, Healthy Shopper” coupons, Redbird Rookies Lanyard, Shnucks proof-of-purchase return envelope, and a much more information about this season’s events.

Q: Where do I get the player/parent handbook? A: Please ask your coach or league organizer. Every participant should receive one handbook.

Off-Field Events and Rewards

Q: How many off-field events are there? A: There are six (6) total events this summer! You will receive a reward at each event that you attend. There will also be one (1) additional event* for girls ONLY, ages 9-13. Additional opportunities for Redbird Rookies participants may arise during the season and will be posted and shared accordingly. 

Q: What do I earn if I attend the off-field events? A: A cool reward at each event! See the Rewards page for a list of rewards.

Q: How do I earn rewards? A: You will receive a reward at each event that you attend. You will also receive an additional reward if you attend two (2) out of the three (3) Gold Glove events and hit a reading homerun. Refer to Gold Glove and Readers Distribution event information for more details.

Q: When are the off-field events? A: Please see the 2018 Redbird Rookies Off-Field Events Schedule for full details and the cool rewards you can earn!  A brief summary of event dates below.

  1. Cardinals Alumni Baseball Clinics – May/June TBD
  2. Music Concert at The Sheldon Concert Hall – June 19th, 20th or 21st,  7:00p
  3. Health Fair at Fontbonne University – June 23rd, 9:00a-4:00p
  4. Live performance at the Peabody Opera House – July 12th, 7:00p

Q: What are the Gold Glove Events? A: Don’t miss out on these THREE (3) events. If you attend two (2) out of the three (3) Gold Glove events you will earn even more prizes in addition to the giveaway at each event!

Q: Why do I need the Rawlings Gold Glove Attendance Card? A:  You can earn FREE Cardinals Tickets and other cool rewards for attending our Redbird Rookies off-field activities. See details below. BRING IT TO ALL OF THE OFF-FIELD EVENTS!!

Earn a Rawlings Mini Gold Glove

  1. Attend 2 of the 3 “Gold Glove” events and have your card punched.
  2. Hit a Homerun in the Readers program AND submit your card at the Readers Distribution event on August 4th.

Earn two (2) FREE Cardinals tickets

  1. Mail in your Gold Glove Contest Entry Form AND completed Gold Glove Attendance Card no later than September 1st. See contest entry form provided in your player/parent handbook for more details.

Two (2) contest winners from each age division will also receive…

  1. Four (4) tickets to a Cardinals game
  2. Opportunity to meet a Cardinals player
  3. Honored in a pre-game, on-field ceremony
  4. Personalized Rawlings baseball glove

Q: Where do I get the Rawlings Gold Glove Contest Entry Form? A: In the player/parent handbook you received from your coach or league organizer. You will complete this form at the end of the season and mail it with your completed Gold Glove attendance card no later than September 1st.

**DON’T FORGET – To complete your Gold Glove Attendance Card you must hit a homerun in the Readers program AND submit your card at the Readers Distribution event on Saturday, August 4th.

Q: Where do I get the Readers Card? A: In the player/parent handbook you received from your coach or league organizer. If you read over the summer you can earn cool rewards!

Q: Why do I need a Readers Card? A:  You can earn FREE school supplies, a Cardinals water bottle, poster and bookmark for completing your summer reading. Also, if your entire team hits a home run in the reading program this summer you will be entered into a drawing for a chance to play a game at Busch Stadium or practice with a current Cardinals player.

Q: Where and when do I pick up my FREE school supplies? Bring your completed Readers Card AND your Gold Glove Attendance Card to Busch Stadium on Saturday, August 4th from 9:00a-1:00p. Participants must be present to claim their rewards.

Q: What if I cannot attend the Readers Distribution Event? A: Turn in your completed Readers Card to your league organizer no later than Friday, July 27, 2018. They will need to pick up your rewards for you at the event on Saturday, August 4th from 9:00a-1:00p.

Q: Where do I get the Schnucks “Healthy Eater, Healthy Shopper” coupons? A: In the player/parent handbook you received from your coach or league organizer.

Q: Why do I need Schnucks “Healthy Eater, Healthy Shopper” coupons? A: You can get FREE food from any local Schnucks Markets. If you use all four (4) coupons and mail in your proof-of-purchases you can earn FREE Cardinals tickets to a 2019 regular season game and have a chance to win a $250.00 Schnucks Gift Card.

Q: How do I claim my FREE Cardinals tickets for using my “Healthy Eater, Healthy Shopper” coupons? A: Mail us your Schnucks proof-of-purchase in the return envelope provided in your player/parent handbook. It must be postmarked by Sunday, October 14th. Envelopes postmarked after this date will NOT be entered into the drawing for the gift card. Limit one entry per participant.

Q: Who is allowed to go on the field for the pre-game parade during Redbird Rookies day at Busch Stadium? A: ONLY players in uniform tops, and organizers and coaches in their 2018 Redbird Rookies polo will be allowed on the field for the parade. Family and friends can watch the parade from the seats.

Q: What happens if I cannot attend an event? A: Don’t Worry! You still have an opportunity to earn a reward because you will need to attend two (2) out of the three (3) Gold Glove events.

Q: Can my parents and siblings come to the off-field events? A: Yes. We welcome and encourage families to attend our Redbird Rookies events. Everyone is FREE! You don’t want to miss the fun!

Q: What is the submission deadline for …

  • Register to Play – May 11th
  • Readers Card – August 4th
  • Rawlings Gold Glove Attendance Card – August 4th
  • Gold Glove Contest Entry Form – September 1st
  • Scholarship Application – September 14th (Applicants must have completed 7th grade in Spring 2018 and played in Redbird Rookies in 2018. Up to Ten (10) $8000 scholarships are awarded each Fall.)
  • Schnucks coupons proof-of-purchase – October 14th

Volunteer Coaches and Parents

Q: How do I sign-up to volunteer for a Redbird Rookies league? A: Go to RedbirdRookies.org. Click “Find a league near you!”. Select the league closest to you. Follow the steps to setup your account and register as a volunteer.

Q: Do I have to complete a background check to become a Redbird Rookies coach? A: Yes, in order to be a head or assist coach you must pass a background check. When you register as a volunteer it will prompt you to summit your information.

Q: What do volunteers receive? A: Head and assistant coaches receive a Redbird Rookies coach’s polo and cap. Parents and others that volunteer to help a team and/or the league, receive a Redbird Rookies t-shirt.

Q: If I am a volunteer coach do I receive any rewards? A: Yes. If you do the following you will earn the following rewards:

  • MANDATORY Coaches’ Workshop – May 10th , 5:30-8:00p – Receive a padfolio OR Cardinals Promo item
  • Coaches’ On-Field Workshop – May 12th, 11:00a-2:00p – Receive a padfolio OR Cardinals Promo item
  • If your full team hits a home run in the reading program this summer – Receive two (2) Cardinals tickets to a 2019 regular season game. You will also be entered into a drawing for a chance to play a game at Busch Stadium or practice with a current Cardinals player.

Q: How do I as a parent get involved? A: Please talk to your coach or league organizer about your interest. We encourage each team to have 1 to 2 lead parents to assist.

Q: Do I as a parent receive anything for being involved? A: Yes. If you attend the Lead Parents’ Workshop - May 11th, 5:30-8:00p – Receive a padfolio OR Cardinals Promo item. Also, parents and others that volunteer to help a team and/or the league, receive a Redbird Rookies t-shirt.
